What better way to put away those winter blues in Canada than a little bit of shopping at the mall – well, maybe a lot of shopping.  Now, you can plan your next spree by finding the largest mall near you, with a new list organising the top ten largest malls in Canada.

The Retail Council of Canada (RCC) has recently conducted the nationwide Canadian Shopping Center Study and narrowed down where the largest malls are.

Unsurprisingly, Alberta’s West Edmonton Mall sits at number one.  With over 3,200,000 square feet of space, West Edmonton is the largest mall in North America and was the largest in the world as recently as 2004- currently fifth in the world.

Alberta may offer the largest single facility. However, Ontario offers the most shopping options.  Five of the top ten largest malls on the list all reside within Ontario- three of them are out of Toronto.

West Edmonton Mall, Alberta – 3,200,000 square feet

West Edmonton Mall is not just the biggest mall in Canada it is the biggest mall in North America.

Along with over 800 stores and over 20,000 car spots the mall is home to some impressive attractions like Galaxyland, World Water Park, Mayfield Toyota Ice Palace, Professor WEM’s Adventure Golf and more.

Square One Shopping Centre, Ontario– 2,200,000+ square feet

Commonly referred to as just Square One, this mall was recently expanded from 1,904,595 feet to become the second largest mall in Canada.

It hosts over 360 stores and services including anchor tennant Walmart Supercentre,
Hudson’s Bay, Simons, Holt Renfrew and Sport Chek.

CF Toronto Eaton Centre, Ontario – 2,098,754 square feet

The Toronto Eaton Centre is a shopping mall located in in Downtown Toronto. Its named is derived from the now defunct Eaton’s department store chain that established the mall.

In 2011 the aging food courts underwent a $120 million dollar renovation to create what is now named the Urban Eatery.

Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Ontario – 1,841,961 square feet

Yorkdale Shopping Centre is located in Toronto, Ontario. It is not only one of the biggest malls in the country it also has the highest sales per unit area of any mall in Canada.

Metropolis at Metrotown, BC – 1,795,326 square feet

Commonly referred to as Metrotown or Metro, this mall is a three-storey shopping mall complex in British Columbia. It has over 450 shops and services, including Hudson’s Bay, Walmart, Toys “R” Us, T & T Supermarket, Sport Chek, Chapters and Forever 21.

It is the largest mall in British Columbia and along with the retail space there is also three office buildings that are part of the complex.

Scarborough Town Centre, Ontario – 1,593,248 square feet

Named after a former city it’s anchor tenants include Hudson’s Bay, Walmart, and Cineplex Cinemas.

Park Royal Shopping Centre, BC – 1,501,405 square feet

Park Royal Shopping Centre dates back to 1950 and is located in West Vancouver. It is Canada’s first covered shopping mall. The mall markets itself as five star shopping after significant renovations.

CF Carrefour Laval, Quebec – 1,403,947 square feet

CF Carrefour Laval has the reputation of being a gate for international chains that are looking to expand in Quebec. It is also one of the province’s best performing shopping malls in terms of sales per square foot.

Les Galeries de la Capitale, Quebec – 1,348,381 square feet

Les Galeries de la Capitale houses 280 stores and 35 eateries, with anchors La Baie, Toys R Us, IMAX, Best Buy and HART. The mall also houses a popular amusement park, le Mega-Parc.

Vaughan Mills, Ontario – 1,270,163 square feet

A regional mall in Ontario, that has over 200 retail stores.
