Walmart Canada is Recalling 90,000 Power Banks Due to Exploding Batteries

Health Canada and Walmart have officially issued a recall on Blackweb brand power banks after reports of overheating batteries and fire risks.

The recall includes all Blackweb power banks sold between May 2016 and February 2018 at Walmart locations across Canada, as well as online.  An estimated 90,000 products were sold between those dates.

Walmart Canada has received multiple reports of the power banks overheating.  At least two of the reports included injury due to burn hazards.

The following models and UPCs are being included in the recall:

  • Blackweb 5200mAh Power Bank – model number S5201 – UPC 840518100287
  • Blackweb 6600mAh Power Bank – model number S6601 – UPC 840518100294
  • Blackweb 10000mAh Power Bank – model number S1001 – UPC 840518100300

If you are unsure if your product is affected by the recall you can contact Walmart Canada at 1-800-328-0402.  Anyone who has purchased one of these power banks should immediately stop using it and return it any Walmart location for a refund.
