No-one wants to be dashing maniacally from shop to shop looking for presents after work on Christmas Eve. Our advice? Avoid the elbows at Oxford Circus and head home instead. We have pulled together a list of the best last minute gifts that can be not only be ordered online from the warmth and comfort of your sofa (or bed), but will arrive safely before Christmas Day. Maximum thought, minimal stress. Merry Christmas.
Give the whisky lover in your life these whisky rocks, which, once frozen, will keep their dram perfectly chilled without compromising its taste (whether that’s straight up or with a splash of water added). Handcrafted in Colorado from recycled soapstone, they bring a new meaning to your drink being on the rocks. And John Lewis offers next day delivery up until 22 December, too.
Gin lovers have lots to celebrate these days, with new blends and inventive tonics popping up seemingly every day. The first gin makers in the City in 200 years, City of London Distillery offers a chance to learn more about the process of making gin, as well the opportunity to come up with a unique recipe and bottle design. The experience includes expert guidance from a tutor who will instruct participants in what goes in to making gin, and help them select the ingredients for their own. Then, with a miniature still, they’ll distill their own blend of botanicals, before creating a signature label to finish.
There’s nothing quite like the heady scent of an old wood-panelled library. Handily, for those of us unable to recreate the effect in our own homes, Byredo has replicated the fragrance in its ‘Bibliothèque’ candle. Floral top notes of peach and plum are blended with a peony and violet heart, while the base of patchouli, leather and vanilla evoke that unique library timbre. And Liberty offers a special Christmas delivery service, meaning if you order before 4pm on Friday 21 December, you’ll receive your items on or before Christmas Eve.
An all-round people pleaser, you can’t go wrong with a toasty Asprey blanket this Christmas. Crafted from 100 per cent lambswool, it features a reversible plaid and camel design – just the thing for draping over the sofa come Boxing Day. If you order by 3pm on Thursday 20 December, you’ll receive it before Christmas. And, even better, if you live in central London, you’re eligible for same day delivery on Christmas Eve if you order by 10am.
What’s more Christmassy than a succulent winter roast? Help keep the festive spirit alive well into the new year, and give someone the gift of great cuts of meat – and plenty of them. The Dorset Meat Company prides itself on its small, family-run farms, traditional husbandry and 100 per cent grass-fed animals. They offer a number of gift boxes, but we’d particularly want to receive the Luxury Roast Meat Box, with a sirloin roasting joint, whole leg of lamb and leg of pork, come January.
