Ontario is Getting a Massive Adult Playground That Should Turn One Community into a Mini Vegas

Good news for Ontario residents that are looking for more to do.  The region of Durham is looking to transform the area of Pickering into a Vegas-style destination with plenty of cultural and tourist entertainment.

Durham Live is a proposed project that has been gaining some traction.  Recently they have acquired approval from the Ontario Municipal Board to break ground in the northwest corner of Church and Bayly.  The project should make the area a high-end tourist destination within the Toronto area.

A whole slew of facilities are planned as part of the Durham Live overhaul including a world-class casino, indoor waterpark, shopping, restaurants, and cinemas.  They are hoping to install a minimum of three luxury hotels, fitness centres and spas, as well as five-star amenities.  There is reserved space for a botanical gardens and film studio space, which has been a rising concern for many Ontario creatives.

Durham Live is a collaborative development that involves multiple tourism departments as well as Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.  Although, the casino is a significant piece of the project Pickering Mayor Dave Ryan thinks the economic benefits are way higher than the one building, “This isn’t just about a casino, it’s about a range of employment and tourism opportunities.”  Early estimates believe Durham Live could create as many as 12,000 new jobs.
