We have all thought about it but, who would have thought that somebody would ever try it. Sure enough, one man in Vancouver, BC has been caught driving in the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, with a mannequin disguised as his passenger.
A Port Mann, Traffic Services officer, was on routine patrol on February 6, when he caught sight of a vehicle going “well over” the designated speed limit. Also, the driver made several other infractions including changing lanes without signalling and crossing over solid white lines.
As the officer managed to pull over the vehicle, he noticed that the driver had a “very unusual” passenger. In the passenger side of the car was a fully clothed female mannequin with sunglasses and all.
“We routinely conduct patrols on Highway 1 to enforce all the traffic laws, including HOV violators,” said RCMP Cpl. Garth Domm. “This is one of those cases where the RCMP got their mannequin.”
The driver was issued a collection of tickets for his driving infractions including driving in the HOV lane without passengers. The RCMP have also confiscated the mannequin to prevent further issues.
Domm was happy to add that the passenger “exercised the right to remain silent.”
