The Royal Canadian Mint has released a lot of unique coins over the years.  You can find coins with everything from superheroes to birthstones.  However, this odd-shaped coin featuring one of Canada’s most famous UFO sightings is something entirely different.

The 1 oz. pure silver coin has a face value of $20 but costs $129.95 from the Royal Canadian Mint website.  The commemorative coin is explicitly shaped to look like an alien head.  What’s more, is this coin glows-in-the-dark and comes with a black light flashlight to activate its features.

The design is meant as a retelling of one of Canada’s most remarkable unexplained phenomena.  In 1967, Stefan Michalak was prospecting for precious metals near Falcon Lake, Manitoba.  Michalak witnessed two glowing objects in the sky above him glowing red.  One of the strange crafts descended, landing about 50 meters away from him.  He then approached the craft and had even heard muffled noises coming from inside.  As soon as Michalak touched the UFO, it shot back up into the sky, emitting hot air and gas that left him with mysterious third-degree burns.

The mysterious encounter has been a mystery with more questions than answers and Michalak’s story has never changed.

The Royal Canadian Mint decided to commemorate this strange event as Canada is full of UFO activity.  Over 1,000 UFO sightings were reported in 2016 alone, and a public opinion poll showed that at least half of Canadians believe that intelligent life from another planet has already visited Earth.
