The Greater Toronto Area and Southern Ontario was hit with a pretty nasty ice storm last weekend. The conditions have caused Raptors and Maple Leafs tailgate parties to be cancelled, and the Blue Jays had to postpone their game on Monday due to the terrible weather. Now the Ontario Provincial Police are reporting that there were more than 1600 vehicular collisions throughout the weekend.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the OPP shared a video on Twitter this week with a message stating, “hope you weren’t involved in one of the over 1600 crashes this weekend.”

The high amount of collisions can be attributed to dangerous driving conditions, but Sgt. Schmidt says there is another problem.
“When we look at all those crashes there is one common denominator. It is not the weather; it is not the roads, it is not the conditions, it is the poor driving of the drivers.”
Sgt. Schmidt adds that while there were a lot of crashes throughout the storm, things could have been a lot worse.
Drive safe, Canada.
