In 2016, the small village of McAdam experienced over 100 minor earthquakes with no explanation of why they were occurring. Two years later, and the unexplainable earthquakes have returned with as many as 22 happening in the last 30 days.
While the village has been tormented by shaken buildings and broken windows, all of the earthquakes throughout the years have stayed relatively low on the Richter Scale. After 2016, the ground stopped shaking, and things were calm up until this past month.
“It will wake you up in the middle of the night, but we’ve become accustomed to them,” says McAdam’s mayor Ken Stannix. “You wake up and say, ‘That must have been an earthquake,’ and then you’ll hear a couple softer bangs and then the event is over.”
Residents have been reporting that this latest group of earthquakes have been accompanied by a loud sound similar to a small explosion or gunshot.
Seismologists at Natural Resources Canada have no explanation for the swarm of earthquakes. The village of McAdam is located nowhere near any fault lines. These quakes that have been tormenting this small village is nothing short of a mystery.
