Canada’s primary registry for purebred dogs, the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), has just released their list of Canada’s ten most popular dog breeds. This year’s list has a brand-new entry compared to previous lists. The Australian Shepard has had a significant rise in adoption and has cracked into the number nine spot on the list.
This year’s top dog is no surprise, as the family-friendly Labrador Retriever lands in first place once again. The dog breed has been Canada’s favourite breed since 1995.
Larger dogs may be on top of the list, but CKC says that smaller and medium dogs are making their mark in Canada.
“Large or small breeds, it’s clear that Canadians love their dogs no matter the size,” said CKC Executive Director Lance Novak “Whether you live in the city or the suburbs, it’s important you’re able to choose a dog that really suits your home, family and lifestyle.”
Here are the ten most popular dog breeds in Canada for 2018:
- Labrador Retriever
- German Shepherd Dog
- Golden Retriever
